Lok Sabha Elections: SP's laboratory is going through a tough test, and Congress is the only support; test of akhilesh's skills

Posted on 22nd Mar 2024 11:02 am by rohit kumar

The main opposition party of the state, SP, is going through a tough test. Before the 2022 assembly elections, SP had created a big stir by breaking many BJP allies and including many senior leaders of other parties. But, his dream of change of power remained unfulfilled. However, some seats increased. Vote share also increased. However, the government was formed by the BJP. About a year ago, when political parties were starting preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, the process of SP's allies leaving the party started. This trend continues even after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.

First Subhash SP and then RLD left SP. Now Apna Dal (Kameravadi), the strongest advocate of SP's PDA formula, has increased the challenges of the party by announcing to contest separate elections. The special thing is that the impact of the SP allies who have left till now is going to be felt from east to west. Some have a good influence in the East, while others are considered to have a strong base in the West.

At present, only Congress is seen standing with SP in the Lok Sabha elections. There was an alliance of SP-Congress in 2017 also, but it did not yield much benefit. How Akhilesh Yadav will write the script of success in 2024 with only the help of Congress, everyone's eyes will be on his skills.

extension of experiment beyond the power

2014: When fought alone, five family members won

Since 2012, the Samajwadi Party has not been able to achieve political success as expected. In 2014, SP contested the Lok Sabha elections alone on all the seats (two were left for Congress). Won five seats. All were family members. Mulayam Singh Yadav won in Azamgarh, Akshay Yadav in Firozabad, Dharmendra Yadav in Badaun, Dimple Yadav in Kannauj, Mulayam Singh Yadav also won in Mainpuri. Later, Tej Pratap Yadav won from Mainpuri in the by-election. The party got 22.20 percent votes.

2019: Fought elections together with BSP-RLD, got only five seats, votes also decreased

In the year 2019, SP contested the elections in alliance with BSP and RLD. The alliance got 15 seats. SP again got only five seats. Mulayam Singh Yadav won the election from Mainpuri and Akhilesh Yadav from Azamgarh. Other members of the family lost the election. Among the three other members, Azam Khan from Rampur, ST Hasan from Moradabad, and Shafiqur Rahman Burke from Sambhal won. The vote share decreased to 18.11 percent. The entire cream went to BSP. In 2014, BSP could not win even a single seat but captured 10 seats. Overall, SP's experiment backfired.

2022: If new allies are made, seats also increase, and vote share also increases.

After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP broke the alliance with SP. However, RLD remained together. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav started weaving plans to return to power in UP in 2022. As a new experiment, Om Prakash Rajbhar, who was a minister in the Yogi-01 government, joined hands with Subhaspa's party. He did not stop here. There was a stir by including three other ministers in the government – Dara Singh Chauhan, Dharam Singh Saini, and Swami Prasad Maurya in the party. Apna Dal also included Kamerawadi. Many MLAs of the time from other parties also participated.

SP could not return to power, but this environment was of great benefit. In the 2017 assembly elections, when SP had an alliance with Congress, it got 47 seats and 21.81 percent votes. In the 2022 elections, 64 seats increased and the number of MLAs increased to 111. The vote share also increased to 32.06 percent. Vote share directly increased by 10.24 percent.

17 experiment will return in 2024, friends getting scattered

Om Prakash Rajbhar, Subhaspa

After the assembly elections, Rajbhar left SP and joined the NDA. To help the Rajbhar society, BJP not only made SubhaSP chief Omprakash a minister again in the Yogi cabinet but also gave him a big department like Panchayati Raj. Made an MLC of Subhashpa and also gave him a seat in Lok Sabha.

Jayant Chaudhary, RLD

RLD, which was SP's strongest ally, also left it. The disintegration of the party which is considered powerful in Western UP is being considered a big blow for SP in that area. RLD has also become a part of NDA. Not only has an MLA from RLD joined the Yogi cabinet, but he has also got an MLC from the alliance. The party has also got two Lok Sabha seats.

Krishna Patel, Apna Dal (Camerawadi)

Pallavi Patel, the elder daughter of party president Krishna Patel, has been elected MLA from SP symbol as per the agreement. Pallavi, a staunch advocate of the PDA formula, first openly questioned the selection of an SP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections and then voted on her terms. Now the party has announced to contest elections from Phulpur, Mirzapur, and Kaushambi reserved seats. SP also fielded its candidate from Mirzapur without showing any leniency. The separation of Krishna Patel after Swami Prasad is being considered as a weakening of the strength of SP's PDA formula.

Dara Singh Chauhan

Noniya is considered the leader of the society. Frustrated with not getting importance in SP, he left the legislature and party membership. After returning home to the BJP, Chauhan first became an MLC and then again became a minister in the Yogi government.

Swami Prasad Maurya, Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party

After being brought into SP, Swami Prasad was made the National General Secretary of the party. If he lost the assembly elections, he was made MLC. He has been a strong advocate of the backward, Dalit, and minority formula of the Samajwadi Party. He left the post of SP and membership of the Legislative Council and formed a new political party Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party.
