New Zealand have suffered a double injury setback ahead of their five-match T20I series against India, with Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes ruled out of the upcoming contest. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has named all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner as their replacements.
The India vs New Zealand T20I series is scheduled to begin in Christchurch on October 22. The squad changes come as the Black Caps prepare for a challenging series against the reigning T20 World Cup champions.
Mark Chapman Suffers Hamstring Injury, Zak Foulkes Has Hip Flexor Problem
According to New Zealand Cricket, Chapman sustained a tear in his left hamstring while playing in the European T20 league last month. He is expected to be available for the subsequent ODI series against India.
Foulkes, meanwhile, injured his right hip flexor during a training session with Canterbury. His return-to-play timeline has not yet been determined, leaving his availability for future matches uncertain.
The injuries mean both players will miss the entire five-match T20I series against India.
Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner Join New Zealand Squad
New Zealand have brought in experienced all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner to replace the injured duo.
Head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment at losing Chapman and Foulkes but welcomed the opportunity to bring Clarkson and Tickner into the squad.
Walter said he was gutted for the injured players and wished them a smooth recovery. He added that New Zealand would benefit from the experience of Clarkson and Tickner, who are excited to be part of the upcoming T20I series.
The replacements will look to make the most of their opportunity as New Zealand take on a strong Indian side.
India vs New Zealand T20I Series to Begin on October 22
The five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand begins on October 22, with the opening match scheduled in Christchurch.
The two teams last met in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year, where India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to lift the trophy.
India will aim to carry that momentum into the upcoming series, while New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, will look to respond strongly on home soil.
The injury-related squad changes add an early challenge for the Black Caps as both teams prepare for the five-match contest.
