WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a major usability upgrade for iPhone users that could significantly improve the way photos and videos are shared inside chats.
According to recent reports, WhatsApp is currently testing a redesigned media attachment interface for its iOS app. The upcoming feature will allow users to instantly share recent photos and videos directly from the chat screen — without opening the full gallery or leaving the conversation window.
The update is expected to make media sharing faster, smoother, and far more convenient for millions of iPhone users worldwide.
WhatsApp Testing New Media Attachment Sheet for iPhone
As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out a redesigned attachment sheet to selected iOS beta testers.
The most notable addition is a brand-new “Recent” media section integrated directly inside the attachment menu.
Instead of opening the complete gallery interface every time users want to send photos or videos, WhatsApp will now display recently accessed media directly within the chat attachment panel.
New 4x4 Grid Layout to Simplify Media Sharing
One of the biggest highlights of the update is the introduction of a compact 4x4 grid layout for media previews.
How It Works:
When users tap the attachment (+) button inside a WhatsApp chat:
Standard options like Document, Camera, Gallery, Location, and Audio will still appear at the top
Directly below them, users will now see a 4x4 grid of recent photos and videos
Media can be selected instantly without navigating away from the chat
This redesigned interface aims to reduce the number of steps required to share media.
Chat Window Will Remain Visible
Previously, attaching media on WhatsApp opened the full gallery screen, temporarily hiding the ongoing chat conversation.
With the new update:
The chat screen remains active in the background
Users can continue viewing messages while selecting media
The sharing process becomes faster and less disruptive
This could particularly benefit users who frequently share:
Memes
Screenshots
Work documents
Photos
Quick video clips
during active conversations.
Why This WhatsApp Feature Matters
The redesigned attachment sheet may appear like a small interface tweak, but experts believe it could dramatically improve user experience.
Major Benefits:
Faster media sharing
Fewer screen transitions
Better multitasking during chats
Easier access to recent files
Improved conversation continuity
As messaging apps continue competing on convenience and speed, such UI improvements can significantly enhance day-to-day usability.
Which WhatsApp Version Will Get the Feature?
According to reports, the feature is expected to appear in:
WhatsApp for iOS version 26.19.75
At present:
The feature is only available to selected iOS beta testers
A wider rollout has not yet been officially announced
WhatsApp is reportedly testing:
Stability
Performance
User experience feedback
before expanding availability globally.
How iPhone Users Can Access the New Feature
Once the feature becomes publicly available, using it will be extremely simple.
Steps:
Open any WhatsApp chat
Tap the “+” attachment button beside the message box
The redesigned attachment sheet will appear
Recent photos and videos will be visible in the new grid section
Select and send media instantly
The update eliminates the need to repeatedly open the full iPhone gallery for quick sharing.
WhatsApp Continues Expanding iOS Features
Meta Platforms-owned WhatsApp has been aggressively introducing new features across both Android and iOS platforms.
Recent WhatsApp updates have included:
AI-powered chat tools
Improved privacy controls
Multi-device support
Voice chat enhancements
HD media sharing
Advanced status features
The company is now increasingly focusing on making everyday messaging faster and more intuitive.
Competition Among Messaging Apps Intensifies
Messaging platforms like:
Telegram
Signal
iMessage
continue introducing new productivity and media-sharing features.
As competition grows, WhatsApp appears focused on improving interface efficiency and reducing friction during common tasks like media sharing.
When Will the Feature Roll Out Globally?
WhatsApp has not yet confirmed an official global release date for the redesigned attachment sheet.
However, based on the current beta testing phase, industry experts believe the feature could gradually expand to more iPhone users in the coming weeks or months.
If testing remains successful, the update may eventually become part of a stable public WhatsApp iOS release.
