Hardik Pandya gave a very accurate answer to the future of captaincy - if given a chance...

Hardik Pandya had become a villain in the eyes of Indian cricket fans since the way Team India lost the first two matches in the T20 World Cup 2021. Hardik has made himself a hero from a villain in less than a year. It started with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Hardik was made the captain of Gujarat Titans and in his debut season of team and captaincy, Hardik had locked the mouth of critics around the world by making the team the champion. Hardik then went on to captain Team India in the T20 format and became successful. Hardik took charge of the team in the last match of the five-match series against the West Indies in the absence of Rohit Sharma and once the result was in favor of Team India. After the match, Hardik spoke openly about the future captaincy.

When Hardik was asked after the match whether he sees himself as the permanent captain of Team India in the future, he said, 'Why not, if I get a captaincy opportunity, I would like to take it happily. For now, we have to focus on the Asia Cup. We want to focus on that. As a team, we endeavor to continuously improve and keep enjoying the game.

In the fifth T20, many players including regular captain Rohit Sharma were rested and despite this, India won the match by 88 runs. This was the joint fourth-highest win for the Indian team in T20 Internationals. India has used seven captains this year. Hardik had replaced Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain before the tour of West Indies and the USA.
