Team India received a special welcome at India House in Colombo ahead of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka. India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, hosted the Indian cricket team at the diplomatic premises ahead of the much-anticipated match.
The event was highlighted by the BCCI, which described the evening in Colombo as a memorable occasion and shared pictures featuring the Indian team and the Indian flag.
India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test on August 23
The second Test of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka will begin on August 23, 2026, at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
India currently lead the series 1-0 after registering a convincing 165-run victory in the opening Test at Galle. The visitors will now look to complete a 2-0 series sweep in Colombo.
India Eye Series Clean Sweep
India's win in Galle has given the team considerable momentum going into the second Test. The Indian side will be aiming to maintain that advantage and finish the series unbeaten.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be under pressure to respond strongly at home and level the series.
India’s Position in the WTC Points Table
India are currently placed fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. A win or draw in Colombo would further strengthen their position, although India will need consistent results in their upcoming Test assignments to remain in contention for a place in the WTC final.
The team's performances in the forthcoming series against New Zealand and Australia could prove particularly important in determining their final position in the standings.
What Is India House?
India House is a commonly used term for the official premises of Indian diplomatic missions in several countries. These locations serve as important centres for diplomatic engagement, cultural activities and strengthening bilateral relations between India and the host nation.
The Colombo event involving Team India reflects the broader relationship between India and Sri Lanka, with cricket continuing to play an important role in people-to-people and sporting ties between the two countries.
