Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blink on Tuesday stressed the need to make the UN Security Council more inclusive. "We believe that to meet the challenges we are facing, members of the United Nations must follow not only the Charter but also the Security Council," Blinken told reporters at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. The institute should also be modernized including making it more inclusive.
That is why, in his address to the General Assembly, President Joe Biden expressed his support for increasing the number of Security Council representatives, both permanent and non-permanent, which is a long-term goal of India, he said.
This includes permanent seats for countries we have long supported and permanent seats for countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, the top US diplomat said.
Jaishankar, who arrived in the city from New York, where he attended the UN General Assembly session, said reform of the United Nations is a particularly timely topic.
"We appreciate America's positive approach to this issue, which is reflected in the position expressed by President Biden himself," he said. We look forward to working with the United States to take this further. I also appreciated the strong cooperation received from the United States on the issue of combating international terrorism.
Jaishankar said, I specifically mention the list of terrorists known and wanted by the UN clearance process. In many other ways, our two countries cooperate to keep the world more secure.
During the meeting, the two leaders (S Jaishankar and Lloyd Austin) underscored the spirit of deep cooperation between the US, India, Australia, Japan, and European partners. Welcoming the foreign minister to the Pentagon, Austin referred to his recent telephonic conversation with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, saying the conversation strengthens the growing partnership and aspirations between the two countries.
He added, "I am grateful for your friendship and we will work together towards our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific." Looking forward to a great conversation in this regard.
