Two dead in 342 incidents of pre-poll violence in Bengal

Kolkata, April 11 (IANS) Two people were killed in as many as 342 incidents of pre-poll violence in West Bengal since the March 5 announcement of Lok Sabha elections, an official said Friday.

"One person was killed in Nadia district in an incident March 20 and another in Murshidabad on Wednesday," Amit Roy Chowdhury, officer on special duty in the state poll panel, told reporters here.

He said as much as 105.9 kg of explosives, 2,448 cartridges, 981 illegal arms and 5,013 bombs have been seized in the state so far.

"As many as 174 arms licences have been cancelled and three illegal arms manufacturing centre were raided," Roy Chowdhury added.
