CJ Cholendra Shamsher Rana under house arrest in Nepal: said - let me go to court, impeachment was imposed in the abuse of privilege case

Chief Justice of Nepal's Supreme Court (CJ) Cholendra Shamsher Rana has been placed under house arrest by the government of Sher Bahadur Deuba. After this Rana said that I was preparing to go to the Supreme Court, but the government did not allow this to happen. The police stopped me from going to court. Chief Justice Rana said that I have been placed under house arrest and there is a strong police guard outside my house.

 

Rana had said in a letter, "The last session of Parliament is over and elections are due in November. In such a situation, the process of impeachment against him has also ended. Now I will work as Chief Justice. After this claim of Rana, the government put him under house arrest.

Impeachment took place on 13 February

 

Let us inform you that on February 13 this year, 98 MPs of the Nepali Congress, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist) brought an impeachment motion against Rana. Rana faced 21 charges, including corruption and bargaining for a stake in the government, and was suspended in February.

 

The impeachment motion could not be passed in Parliament and the government's last Parliament session also ended on Saturday. At the same time, Nepal Bar Association and Supreme Court Bar Association have said that Rana's protest will continue in court.

Former PM KP Sharma Oli on Sunday said that since Parliament has failed to pass an impeachment motion, Rana should be allowed to return to work. It is the irresponsible attitude of the government to put Rana under house arrest. A motion was filed against him, but it could not be passed in Parliament.
