Mahatma Gandhi's statue was vandalized in Canada: Police told hate crime, Indian Embassy demanded action against the culprits

In the Canadian province of Ontario, some miscreants vandalized the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Richmond Hill on Wednesday. India has expressed concern over the incident and has also demanded an inquiry into the matter. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted York Regional Police as saying that the statue was vandalized at the Vishnu Temple on Yonge Street and Garden Avenue.

 

The Indian Embassy in Toronto said on this incident – ​​We are disturbed by the demolition of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Vishnu temple of Richmond Hill. The incident has hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. We are in touch with the authorities to investigate the matter.

 

Damaged the statue by writing Khalistan

 

York police have described the incident as a hate crime. Police spokesman Amy Boudreau said that some miscreant has damaged the statue by writing words like 'rapist' and 'Khalistan'. York Police will not tolerate hate crimes in any form. People who harass others based on race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, color, religion, or age will be prosecuted.

 

Hindu temple was targeted earlier also

 

Even 5 months ago, Hindu temples were vandalized and looted in the Greater Toronto Area. Then in 10 days, only 6 temples were targeted. In addition to stealing cash from the donation boxes, the miscreants also stole the ornaments decorated on the idols. Usually, such incidents do not happen in Canada, but in the past few times, they are seeing a repeat.
