Shares of RailTel Corporation of India witnessed a sharp recovery during early trading on August 19, rising more than 6% after the railway-sector company announced a ₹166.80 crore work order from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

RailTel shares opened at ₹282.65 and climbed to an intraday high of ₹297, bringing the stock back into focus after months of weakness.

What Triggered the RailTel Share Price Rally?

The key trigger was an extension of RailTel's existing Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) work order with EPFO.

The order, valued at ₹166.80 crore including taxes, has been extended for one year and is scheduled for completion by February 9, 2027.

The development comes shortly after RailTel received another significant order worth ₹63 crore from Deendayal Port Authority on August 12.

RailTel Stock Under Pressure for Two Years

Despite the latest recovery, RailTel shares have faced considerable selling pressure over the longer term.

The stock delivered a negative return of around 15% in 2025 and has declined by more than 10% so far in 2026.

Its 52-week range stands at:

52-week high: ₹413.10

52-week low: ₹244.95

Current level: Around ₹297 after the latest rally

The stock remains substantially below its 52-week high, although it has recovered from its recent low.

RailTel Q1FY27 Results: Revenue Rises 20%

RailTel's June 2026 quarter showed strong revenue growth, although profit remained broadly flat.

The company reported:

Revenue: ₹893.2 crore

Revenue growth: 20.1% YoY

Net profit: Approximately ₹66 crore

Market capitalisation: Around ₹9,238 crore

Revenue increased from ₹743.8 crore in the corresponding period last year, while net profit remained almost unchanged.

What Does the EPFO Order Mean for RailTel?

The new work-order extension provides RailTel with continued revenue visibility from its IaaS business. The latest order, combined with the recent ₹63 crore Deendayal Port Authority order, could support the company's order book and business momentum.

However, investors should also consider the stock's prolonged decline, valuation, earnings growth and future order execution before making any investment decision.
