Panaji, Feb 6 (IANS) Cows should be studied for their bio-reactor properties and India should invest in cow-science based agriculture and health system for better future, Padma Bhushan Vijay Bhatkar said Friday at the inaugural session of the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan in Panaji.
Bhatkar is one of the several scientists who were lined up to speak at the event and participate in conclaves, which aim at creating awareness about ancient Indian science and bridging traditional scientific knowledge with modern science.
"The IITs have laboratories. There are labs and labs. There are bio-tech reactors. But have you studied the cow as a reactor, bio-reactor," Bhatkar asked at the event which was attended by top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh functionaries from Goa.
Underlining the importance of the cow subsequently while speaking to IANS, Bhatkar said ancient sages must have seen merit in cows and hence deemed them so important.
"Cow has panch dravyas (five liquids) from gomutra (cow urine) to dung to milk, curd and ghee. They have such properties and (can help) creating an alternative system for agriculture, for the health system and future healthy population of the country," Bhatkar said.
He said that "cow science based" agriculture could help India steer away from the harm caused by pesticides and fertilizers.
Vijay Bhatkar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and is the architect of India's first super computer PARAM in 1991.
