Secret Invasion Review: New enemy from 'Marvel's past, Nick Fury sets out to fight a dangerous war without Avengers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a world of its own, ranging from superheroes to creatures and civilizations living on various fictional planets in space. The activities happening there affect the Earth in one way or the other, while the events happening on the Earth sometimes affect these planets as well.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is divided into several phases, called phases, based on the events depicted in the superhero films. After the blip in Avengers Endgame in 2019 (the event of half the world ending after Thanos' pinch), the fifth phase of the MCU is now underway. All Marvel movies and shows are part of Phase-5.

In this sequence, Marvel's latest series Secret Invasion has been released on Disney Plus Hotstar, which is shown in the period after Blip.

'Secret Invasion' is a six-episode mini-series centering on Nick Fury, the former director of SHIELD, an organization that defends Earth from space attacks. Its first episode has been released on Wednesday and new episodes will be released every week.

What is the story of Secret Invasion?

The basis of the story of this series of Marvel is the same - Space Creatures Versus Humans. This time humans are in danger from Skrulls. Marvel fans have met these creatures in Captain Marvel. Nick Fury no longer has a team of Avengers. He must fend off the onslaught of Skrulls along with his human friends. The Skrulls are furious with Nick for not keeping his promise to provide them with an alternate home.

How are the screenplay and acting?

Nick Fury, who went into self-isolation (presumably on another planet) after the Blip, has returned to Earth. A lot has changed since that incident. The Avengers team is broken up. Nick himself is frail, old, and scattered. Secret Invasion is an interesting story of Nick's spirit.

The first two shows of the series indicate the direction in which the story is going to go. This time the mood of the story is very serious. The humor of Avengers films or 'Loki' and other shows is missing here. The Skrulls have infiltrated the system. They want to change the power by using politics and terrorists.

Man has neither superheroes nor such dangerous weapons left, which can destroy the powerful enemy. Now if this battle is to be won, then only through planning and understanding.

Samuel L. Jackson, who has been playing the character of Nick Fury for 15 years, has reveled in it, but this time it is not the same as before, due to which the character has become more layered. For Samuel as an artist, it is like a change, breaking the rhythm of old characters and presenting new challenges.

Olivia Colman does a fine job as Nick's old friend and MI6 agent Sanya Falsworth. Emilia Clarke's (Game of Thrones Targaryen princess) role as Gaiah, daughter of Skrulls leader Talos, is a pivotal one in the first two episodes and she makes the most of the opportunity. This character was shown as a child in Captain Marvel.

The beginning of the show seems slow. But from the second episode, the story starts picking up pace. This might come as a shock to the viewers who are intent on binge-watching as they will have to wait a week for the next episode. If you are a fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe films and have been watching them, then there will be no problem understanding the background of Secret Invasion.
