On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi fed cows at his official residence. Earlier, on January 14th, the PM had performed 'Gau Seva' (service to cows) on the occasion of the Pongal festival, which reflects his respect for Indian traditions and cultural values.

PM Modi attended the Pongal festival organized at the residence of Union Minister of State L. Murugan. Modi said that Pongal has now become a global festival and Tamil culture is a shared heritage of all of India. PM Modi stated that Pongal teaches people that gratitude towards nature should not be limited to words, but should be made a part of our daily lives.

 

 

Last year too, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fed cows at his residence. Makar Sankranti is celebrated when the sun enters the Capricorn constellation during the month of Paush. It is believed that on this day, Lord Surya (Sun God) visits his son, Lord Shani (Saturn).

 

 

Makar Sankranti celebrations across the country

On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti and the Magh Mela, a grand display of faith and tradition was witnessed in various parts of the country. In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a large number of devotees arrived at the Triveni Sangam for a holy dip as part of the Magh Mela 2026. It is believed that taking a dip in the Sangam leads to spiritual purification.

 

 

In the Alithurai area of ​​Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, the Pongal festival began early in the morning with the creation of colorful rangolis in the courtyards of houses. Meanwhile, devotees offered prayers at the Hanuman Temple in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. A large crowd of devotees thronged the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, for darshan. In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, devotees took a holy dip in the Saryu Ghat to earn merit.

 

 

In Amritsar, Punjab, a large number of devotees also took a dip in the holy Sarovar at Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib on the occasion of the Maghi festival. This confluence of festivals across the country presented a vibrant picture of religious faith, cultural diversity, and collective enthusiasm.
