Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has described the AIIMS cyber attack case as a big conspiracy. He said that some big gang or any country could also be behind this conspiracy. He said that NIA, CERT, and Delhi Police are probing the matter. At the same time, he believes that due to a lack of IT infrastructure, there has been an incident like Ramsamware in AIIMS. To prevent this type of incident, the ministry is going to set IT standards for institutions like AIIMS.
According to ministry sources, strict guidelines related to IT will be issued and security managers will be appointed. IT audits of such organizations will also be done by the Ministry and surprise inspections will also be done from time to time. Online functioning at AIIMS has been affected for the last eight days due to ransomware. To show patients in OPD, they have to stand in line late at night and put in numbers.
According to highly placed sources in the Ministry of Electronics and IT, autonomous institutions like AIIMS take the services of private companies for IT services. Service providers do not strictly follow many rules and this is why incidents like ransomware happen. According to ministry sources, now a standard will be made for the IT infrastructure of all the autonomous organizations associated with the government and strict guidelines will also be issued. They will have to prepare their IT infrastructure according to the standards and guidelines of the Ministry. For the last eight days, organizations like the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), Delhi Police, and Security Research and Development Organization (DRDO) working under the Ministry of IT are investigating the cyber attack on AIIMS. Is.
According to Ministry sources, after the passage of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, incidents like ransomware in AIIMS may become huge. According to the draft bill, action will be taken against the institution if the data goes to hackers during a cyber attack or ransomware due to the lapse of the institution. Whose data is with that organization, the consumer can go to the Data Security Board against them and the organization can also be fined up to Rs 500 crore for this negligence.
However, ministry sources say that the cyber attackers could not get hold of AIIMS data as it was encrypted. But in the future, an incident like AIIMS may lead to action regarding the violation of data security. In case of emergency only, government organizations are exempted from the approval of customers. Approval has to be taken Only in special circumstances like a disaster, or security-law, the government will be able to use the personal data of a person without his approval.
