Mumbai Police arrested Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV on Wednesday morning. Arnab is accused of abetting a woman and her son to commit suicide in 2018. Meanwhile, Arnab alleges that the police beat him up. Republic TV also showed live footage of Arnab's house, showing a clash between the police and Arnab.
Arnab has been taken to the district court of Raigad. Arnab and Republic TV have been questioning the action of Mumbai Police in the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
What is the charge on Arnab?
In 2018, 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother committed suicide. The CID is investigating this case. Anway's wife Akshata had alleged in May this year that her husband had done interior work in Republic TV's studio. 500 laborers were employed for this, but Arnab did not pay 5.40 crores later. This led to his family being strapped. Troubled, Anvay committed suicide with his elderly mother. Anvay also allegedly accused Arnab and two others in the suicide note.
Anvay's wife questioned the investigation
Akshata claims that Raigarh police had registered an FIR in this case, but did not properly investigate the case. However, according to the then SP of Raigad, Anil Paraskar, no evidence was found against the accused in the case. The police had also filed a report in court. Akshata says that she also pleaded for justice with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
