The earthquake has caused massive destruction in Afghanistan. Strong tremors were felt late at night in the south-eastern part of Afghanistan. The intensity of the earthquake was so high that many houses were reduced to rubble. During this, more than 622 people died, and many people were badly injured. At the same time, the effect of the earthquake was also seen in Pakistan and India.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi NCR, including Afghanistan, last night. Its intensity on the Richter scale has been measured at 6.0.

622 people died

Afghan Nangarhar Public Health Department spokesperson Naqibullah Rahimi has also confirmed the earthquake. Rahimi says that many houses collapsed due to the strong tremors of the earthquake. Initially, the news of 9 people dying and 15 people being injured had come to the fore. But now 622 people are feared dead, and more than 1,500 people are injured. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The number of dead and injured is very high. However, it is very difficult to reach that area. Our team is present on the spot.

When did the earthquake occur?

According to USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake has been recorded 8 kilometers below the ground, 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad. This earthquake occurred at 12:47 am on Sunday-Monday night. Apart from Afghanistan, tremors were also felt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan.

Effects were felt till Delhi NCR

The effect of the earthquake was felt in Delhi NCR. Many people ran out of their homes due to the sudden shaking of the earth at midnight. There was an atmosphere of panic among the people. However, the earthquake tremors in Delhi NCR were mild compared to Afghanistan, due to which there was no loss of life or property.

Why do earthquakes occur?

Let us tell you that tectonic activities are very active in the Hindukush mountain region. Due to the shifting of the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate, earthquakes are often felt in this region. Earlier on August 2, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 had occurred in this area, whose epicentre was recorded 87 kilometres below the ground. On August 6, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was felt here.
