Agartala, Feb 5 (IANS) India and Bangladesh have agreed share information and other details to curb trans-border crime, boost trade and improve people to people ties, officials said here Thursday.

A decision to this effect was reached at a two-day meeting here between district magistrates of Tripura's six border districts and deputy commissioners of four Bangladesh border districts. The meeting ended Wednesday.

The officials discussed and finalised strategies to deal with border crime, fencing and better coordination between the district administrations on both sides.

"From now onwards, we would exchange information and other details regularly with our Bangladesh counterparts through e-mails and telephones to resolve local and petty problems," West Tripura district magistrate Abhishek Singh told reporters.

He said: "Problems that could not be solved between the district magistrates and deputy commissioners would be referred to the higher authorities."

Singh, who led the Indian delegations at the meeting, said besides border crimes and border problems, both the sides discussed issues related to trading between the northeastern states and Bangladesh and how to further improve the people-to-people contacts.

Besides West Tripura, district magistrates of Unokoti, North Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai and Sepahijala were part of the Indian delegation, while deputy commissioners of Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Moulavi Bazar, Rangamati districts represented Bangladesh.

The governments of India and Bangladesh have decided to hold district magistrate-level meetings to resolve various issues, including trans-border crimes and boost trade.

District magistrates of Tripura's four other districts - Sipahijala, Gomti, South Tripura and Dhalai - held meeting here Jan 9-10 with deputy commissioners of Bangladesh's five districts - Comilla, Feni, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Chittagong.

District magistrates of Mizoram's Mamit and Lunglei districts met deputy commissioners of Bangladesh's districts of Rangamati and Bandarban (under Chittagong division) in Mamit Jan 22.

Similar conferences would be held in Assam and Meghalaya to sort out border issues.
