Lucknow, March 14 (IANS) The motorcade of AAP leader Kumar Amethi was attacked late Friday in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, police said. AAP blamed the Congress for the attack.
Vishwas, a poet-turned-politician, alleged that many Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers were beaten up and many vehicles in his cavalcade damaged by Congress workers.
The incident took place when Vishwas, who is taking on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from the Amethi parliamentary constituency, was on way to Sinduriya village.
AAP leaders said that a group of people came out and attacked them. "They were shouting anti-AAP slogans and were asking us to go back from Amethi," an AAP leader told IANS.
AAP also alleged that a village head led the attack.
Police however said that no complaint has been filed by Vishwas.
Informed sources said soon after the attack, AAP leader and former Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia left for Amethi to attend to the injured workers.
