
India has received the first unit of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia. This unit will become operational from April i.e. will start working. India will get all five units by the middle of next year and they will also be made operational during this time. Apart from Russia, only China and Turkey have this missile defense system. Recently, Russian officials were quoted as saying that talks are also going on between India and the Russian government regarding the S-500, an updated and upgraded version of the S-400. However, the governments of both countries have not said anything officially about this yet.

According to media reports, the first S-400 surface to air missile unit has been received from Russia and its deployment is going on. It is believed that this unit will become operational from April. After this, India has to get four more units of S-400. These will be available by next year and they will be deployed in areas where the threat from China is high. All these units will start functioning from the middle of next year i.e. 2023.
All the equipment and equipment of the first unit have reached India. At present, they are being assembled. This equipment has reached India by sea and air. For this, the Army Engineers of India have been given special training.
What is the S-400 System?
The S-400 is an air defense system, that is, it prevents attacks through the air. It is effective in preventing the attack of missiles, drones, rocket launchers, and fighter jets of enemy countries. It is designed by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau and is counted among the world's most advanced air defense systems. India and Russia had a deal of about 40 thousand crore rupees in 2018 for 5 units of S-400.

It is fitted with 92N6E electronically steered phased arrow radar which can detect multiple targets from a distance of about 600 km.
It is ready for operation within 5 to 10 minutes of receiving the order.
A single unit of the S-400 can track 160 objects simultaneously.
