India has received the first unit of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia. This unit will become operational from April i.e. will start working. India will get all five units by the middle of next year and they will also be made operational during this time. Apart from Russia, only China and Turkey have this missile defense system. Recently, Russian officials were quoted as saying that talks are also going on between India and the Russian government regarding the S-500, an updated and upgraded version of the S-400. However, the governments of both countries have not said anything officially about this yet.

According to media reports, the first S-400 surface to air missile unit has been received from Russia and its deployment is going on. It is believed that this unit will become operational from April. After this, India has to get four more units of S-400. These will be available by next year and they will be deployed in areas where the threat from China is high.
