Kolkata, Feb 16 (IANS) The Calcutta High Court Monday granted bail to Trinamool Congress leader and former IPS officer Rajat Majumdar who had been behind bars for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam.
Majumdar became the first Trinamool leader to be arrested when he was nabbed by the Central Bureau of Investigation Sep 9, 2014. He was granted bail by the bench of Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Indrajit Chatterjee.
"He has been granted conditional bail on furnishing sureties of Rs.1 lakh. He has been directed by the court not to leave Kolkata and North 24 Parganas district. He also has been asked to appear before the investigating agency once every week," Majumdar's counsel Milon Mukherjee said.
Former director general of the state armed police, Majumdar, is the second Trinamool leader to be granted bail.
Former Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose was granted the bail Feb 4 after spending 75 days in prison. After being granted bail, Bose subsequently resigned both from the party and parliament.
