Coronavirus has gained momentum again. Corona is at its peak in Scotland and Wales, while Covid cases in England are close to record levels. According to official figures, around 4.2 million people were infected in the UK last week. At the same time, a record 2,96,498 new corona cases were registered in Germany a day earlier.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the rise in cases is due to Omicron's sub-variant BA.2 called 'Stealth Omicron'. In England, by 19 March, one in 16 people was likely to have corona, but even for the third week, these cases continued to increase.

Around 4.26 million people were infected last week across the UK, down from the 4.3 million positive cases detected in the first week of January 2022. Despite the number of infections, Omicron's mild symptoms following New Year's celebrations resulted in far fewer deaths than in previous waves.

Patients increasing in hospitals in England

The number of people hospitalized in England and Wales is also increasing. However, the number of people in the High Dependency Unit is still small. Hospitals in Scotland are currently treating 2,326 patients, a new record. So far 164,454 people have died from Corona in Britain.

Corona started increasing again in many countries in China, Europe, Asia

In neighboring China, 3602 cases of the corona were registered on 14 March, which is the highest since February 2020. Since then, cases in China have been increasing continuously. At the same time, cases of corona have started increasing in many European countries including Germany, Italy, France, and Asian countries like South Korea. Especially in Germany, more than 2.5 lakh new cases are being reported every day.

WHO warns

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said about the increase in corona cases in many countries of the world that it is only a glimpse of big trouble. The corona epidemic is neither over yet nor has it become like a seasonal disease. In such a situation, the threat of a new wave remains.

benefits of vaccine

James Naismith, Director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute and Professor of Structural Biology at Oxford University, said that there is no indication that cases of corona infection are at their peak. He said, 'Corona cases are increasing, but due to vaccination, better treatment, and Omicron's less serious, the risk of life to people caught by the virus is low.'
