India completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep over Afghanistan after registering a 127-run victory in the third and final match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday. However, after the emphatic win, India captain Shreyas Iyer attracted attention for a sporting gesture towards Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran.
Shreyas Iyer Invites Ibrahim Zadran to Trophy Celebration
Following India's series victory, the Indian team gathered for the customary trophy celebration and team photograph. During the celebrations, Iyer invited Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran to join the Indian players for the photograph.
Zadran was subsequently seen standing alongside Iyer and Nitish Kumar Reddy during the trophy photo. The gesture highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship between the two teams after a one-sided series on the field.
India had won the first two T20Is by seven wickets before producing an even more emphatic performance in the series finale.
India Complete 3-0 Series Sweep
India defeated Afghanistan by 127 runs in the third T20I after posting 221/7 in their 20 overs. Afghanistan were bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs.
Abhishek Sharma was the star of India's batting effort, smashing 108 runs from just 34 deliveries. His innings included 11 sixes and nine fours.
India's victory completed a 3-0 sweep, with the hosts winning each of the three matches in convincing fashion.
Abhishek Sharma Creates T20I History
Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most remarkable innings of his international career in the third T20I.
The left-handed opener reached his century in just 30 balls, setting a new record for the fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter. It was also the fastest T20I century by a batter representing a full-member Test-playing nation.
Abhishek eventually finished with 108 off 34 balls before being dismissed by Rashid Khan.
His explosive innings helped India post a commanding total and gave the bowlers a substantial advantage when Afghanistan began their chase.
Abhishek Sharma Named Player of the Series
Abhishek's consistency throughout the series was another major highlight. After scoring 82 and 39 in the first two matches, he produced the record-breaking 108 in the third T20I. The ICC confirmed that his performances across the series earned him the Player of the Series award.
His 30-ball century also came after he had already scored a 14-ball half-century earlier in the year, underlining his reputation as one of India's most aggressive T20 batters.
Shreyas Iyer's Gesture Becomes a Highlight
While Abhishek Sharma dominated the headlines with the bat, Shreyas Iyer's gesture towards Ibrahim Zadran added a different dimension to India's series victory.
Inviting the opposition captain to join the trophy celebration reflected the sporting spirit of the contest and provided a memorable moment after India's comprehensive 3-0 victory.
India will now turn its attention to the Asian Games campaign in Japan, while Afghanistan will look to regroup after a difficult T20I series.
