Apple has officially started selling the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in India on Friday, September 18, with large crowds gathering outside Apple Stores and authorised retailers across the country.
Buyers were seen queuing for hours—and in some locations overnight—to be among the first to purchase Apple's latest flagship smartphones. Long queues were reported outside Apple Stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, while early-morning crowds were also seen in Noida and other locations.
Apple had announced that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would be available from September 18 after pre-orders began on September 12.
iPhone 18 Pro Sale Begins in India
The iPhone 18 Pro series is now available through Apple's online store, Apple retail stores and authorised retail partners.
Launch-day demand was particularly strong at major Apple locations. Some customers arrived early in the morning, while others reportedly waited overnight for their chance to purchase the new iPhone.
In Mumbai, buyers queued outside the Apple Store at BKC, with some customers travelling from outside the city. Reports also described early-morning queues in Bengaluru, with technology enthusiasts and existing iPhone users among those waiting to purchase the new models.
Buyers Wait Overnight for iPhone 18 Pro Max
The launch attracted customers upgrading from previous-generation iPhones as well as first-day buyers eager to experience Apple's latest features.
Some buyers said they had continued upgrading their iPhones every year. Others were particularly interested in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, including its larger display, camera system, performance upgrades and improved battery life.
The launch also drew technology YouTubers and reviewers, who were among those looking to get their hands on the new devices on the first day.
iPhone 18 Pro Camera: 48MP Main Camera With Variable Aperture
Camera improvements are one of the biggest changes in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
Apple says the new 48MP Fusion Main camera features variable aperture, bringing aperture control to an iPhone for the first time. The system uses six laser-cut blades that can transition between different apertures, providing greater control over depth of field and lighting.
Apple says the new camera system is designed to improve low-light photography, detail in group photos and creative control. The company has also introduced new Pro camera controls and video capabilities.
A20 Pro Chip Powers iPhone 18 Pro Series
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip, paired with a next-generation vapor chamber designed to improve heat dissipation and sustained performance.
Apple says the new thermal system, together with the A20 Pro, delivers its highest sustained performance in an iPhone to date.
The phones also run iOS 27 and support Apple's next generation of Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI experience.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Battery Life
Battery life is another major focus of Apple's latest Pro models.
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro lineup features redesigned batteries and improved silicon efficiency. For eSIM-only models, Apple lists up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro can charge up to 50% in around 15 minutes under Apple's specified charging conditions. Apple also says that five minutes of wired charging on the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide around seven hours of video playback.
Actual battery performance varies depending on usage, network conditions, settings and other factors.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Storage Options
Apple's latest Pro models are available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage configurations. They come in four finishes: black, silver, glacier and burgundy.
The availability of the 1TB and 2TB variants gives customers more storage choices, particularly for users who regularly capture high-resolution photographs and videos.
