India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is often in the news, whether he plays or not. He was released from the team that went on the England tour on Friday, as he is not a part of the fifth Test. Now, a new report has come out about him. According to this report, there is suspense over Bumrah's playing in the Asia Cup starting next month. According to the report, if he plays in the Asia Cup T20 tournament, there will be doubt over his playing in the upcoming series. In such a situation, Bumrah can be rested from the Asia Cup. However, the final decision on this has to be taken by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The Asia Cup is going to start on September 9. At the same time, the big match between India and Pakistan is on September 14.
Bumrah was released from the national team on Friday after completing his quota of three Tests during the five-match series against England, and now the stakeholders of Indian cricket have started discussing his next international competition. 31-year-old Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs in three matches and took 14 wickets. BCCI said in a release on Friday, 'Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Indian team for the fifth Test of the series against England. Bumrah took five wickets in an innings in the Headingley and Lord's Test matches. However, in Manchester, Bumrah also conceded more than 100 runs in an innings for the first time. Bumrah now has 219 wickets in 48 Tests.
Before India's departure to London, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar had confirmed that, keeping in mind his workload management, the fast bowler will not play more than three Tests. Now the question arises, which format will Bumrah play next? India has to participate in the Asia Cup T20 tournament, and if Bumrah is selected for this, then his chances of playing in the Test series against the West Indies within a week after the Asia Cup will be reduced.
The Asia Cup will conclude on September 29, and the first Test against the West Indies will begin in Ahmedabad on October 2. India will then play a two-Test series against South Africa in November. A BCCI source told news agency PTI, "It will be a difficult decision. Bumrah loves Test cricket, and World Test Championship points are at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play in the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup."
He said, "If Bumrah plays the Asia Cup and India plays the final, then he will not be able to play against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. The biggest question is whether you need Bumrah against the West Indies or he should play the Asia Cup after a month's break and then rest in the series against the West Indies and play two Tests against South Africa. This decision will have to be taken by Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir." Bumrah is not expected to play many limited-overs matches until next year's T20 World Cup.
