Draupadi Murmu will be the next President of the country. It was only after three rounds of counting that he took a decisive lead over the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. He was declared the winner after the last round of counting. At the same time, Sinha was out of the race in the first round itself. Although the figures were already in favor of Murmu, no one had thought that Yashwant Sinha would lose in this way. This is the reason why Yashwant Sinha's defeat is being discussed more than Draupadi Murmu's victory.
First, know what happened in the election?
In the presidential election, the votes of MPs were counted in the first round. A total of 776 MPs' votes were valid, including the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. However, 15 of these votes were rejected, while some MPs did not cast their votes. A total of 748 MPs' votes were counted up to the value of 5,23,600. Of these, Draupadi Murmu got 540 votes. The value of these votes was 3,78,000.
At the same time, Yashwant Sinha got 208 MPs. Their value was 1,45,600. That is, Murmu has got the support of 72 percent of the MPs in Parliament, while only 28 percent of the MPs voted for Yashwant Sinha. The special thing is that 17 MPs of the opposition did cross-voting in favor of Draupadi Murmu. Meaning Sinha was out of the race in the first round itself.
Murmu got the votes needed to win in three rounds
Murmu got the required 5 lakh 43 thousand 261 votes in the third round itself. After completion of three rounds of counting, Murmu got 5 Lakh 77 Thousand 777 votes. At the same time, Yashwant Sinha could collect only 2 lakh 61 thousand 62 votes. It includes votes from 20 states, including Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs.
Yashwant Sinha also conceded defeat after three rounds of counting. Congratulating Murmu, he said – Draupadi congratulates Murmu on his victory. The country hopes that as the 15th President of the Republic, she will act as the custodian of the Constitution without fear or favor.
Caught the race in the fourth round, but Murmu had overtaken
Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha was eliminated in the very first round of counting. Murmu's vote value in the first round was 3.78 lakh. Whereas, Sinha stood at 1.45. After this, the margin of victory increased till the third round. Sinha made a comeback in the fourth round, but it was too late. According to the data, Murmu got 6,76,803 votes, while Sinha got 3,80,177 votes. In this way, Draupadi Murmu will be the new President of the country.
Why did not his people support Yashwant Sinha?
We spoke to Dr. Praveen Mishra, Professor of Political Science, to understand this. "Three rounds of counting made it clear that 17 MPs and 110 opposition MLAs have voted for Draupadi Murmu instead of Yashwant Sinha. Voting for Draupadi Murmu by the MPs and MLAs of the opposition even after announcing their support for Sinha testifies that the opposition has not been completely united on Sinha.
1. NDA candidate more effective than Sinha: Sinha comes from the general category and was once a big leader of the BJP. At the same time, Draupadi Murmu is a tribal woman. In such a situation, if the MPs and MLAs of the opposition also know that if they support Murmu, then they can benefit from it in the next elections. He will be able to go among Dalit, backward, and tribal voters and say that he supported Murmu.
2. Leaders of opposition parties could not satisfy everyone in the name of Sinha: Big leaders of many opposition parties including Congress, TMC, and NCP were present while announcing Yashwant Sinha's name. However, these leaders could not satisfy their MPs and MLAs that why vote for Sinha? An old statement of Sinha in UP also went viral. In which it was claimed that Sinha had once described SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav as an ISI agent. This is the reason why there were reports of some SP MLAs also casting their vote for Murmu instead of Sinha.
3. The opposition parties kept fighting among themselves: There is no unity in the opposition. The reason for this is that now no party wants to accept the leadership of Congress. Most of the parties in the opposition are regional and now all of themselves want to lead the opposition. Be it Mamata Banerjee of TMC or K.K. of TRS. Chandrashekhar Rao. Be it, Tejashwi Yadav, in Bihar or Akhilesh Yadav in UP. Everyone now wants to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level.
