However, six out of 15 nuclear reactors stopped working after the Russian attack, causing a severe power outage in Ukraine. Aston at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace pointed out that in general, nuclear plants are not designed as war zones. What is the importance of the zaporizhzhia Plant?
The zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, located 550 kilometers southeast of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, supplies a quarter of Ukraine's electricity needs. According to the information, Russian forces opened fire on the zaporizhzhia plant on Friday morning, causing a fire there. The plant was constructed between 1984 and 1995. It is the largest nuclear plant in Europe, which is ranked ninth in the world. The plant has a total of six reactors, which supply a total of 5700 MW of electricity.
