Kolkata, Feb 25 (IANS) West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress Wednesday suspended legislator Swapan Kanti Ghosh on disciplinary grounds after he staged a protest outside the state assembly accusing his party of misappropriation of funds.

"The party's disciplinary committee has unanimously decided to suspend Ghosh forthwith pending enquiry from the party. Despite being repeatedly cautioned, he acted at the behest of other political parties and made allegations against his own party," Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee said.

Ghosh accused the party of misappropriation of funds meant for a drinking water project under the JNNURM.

Earlier in the day, Ghosh, a legislator from Suri in Birbhum district, said he was expecting action from his party and insisted he would be happy if he was expelled instead of being suspended.

Alleging that the Suri municipality has siphoned off funds meant for a JNNURM drinking water project, Ghosh staged a demonstration seeking a probe.

He also said that he will be taking up the issue with union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and threatened to move the high court.
