The much-awaited initial public offering of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is set to open for public subscription on September 17, 2026. The IPO will remain open until September 21, giving investors a five-day window to place their bids.

The NSE IPO has attracted significant attention because of the exchange's size and its long-awaited public listing. The issue has a price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 per share, while the minimum lot size has been fixed at eight shares. At the upper end of the price band, retail investors will need ₹14,280 to apply for one lot.

NSE IPO: Key Details

The NSE IPO is entirely an Offer for Sale (OFS). Existing shareholders will sell up to 12,64,36,650 equity shares, and there is no fresh issue component. Therefore, the proceeds from the OFS will go to the selling shareholders rather than to NSE itself.

At the upper end of the price band, the issue size is approximately ₹22,561.5 crore, making it one of India's largest IPOs.

NSE IPO GMP Today

The Grey Market Premium (GMP) has become a key talking point ahead of the IPO. However, investors should remember that GMP is an unofficial and unregulated indicator and does not guarantee the listing price or returns.

Recent reports have shown different GMP levels depending on the time and source. For example, Financial Express reported an NSE IPO GMP of around ₹208, while other reports have cited lower levels.

Your reported ₹169 GMP at around 2 PM on September 16 should therefore be presented as a time-specific market snapshot rather than a fixed figure. GMP can change rapidly before and during the subscription period.

How Much Investment Is Required for NSE IPO?

The NSE IPO has a minimum lot size of eight shares.

At the upper price-band price of ₹1,785, the calculation for one retail lot is:

₹1,785 × 8 shares = ₹14,280

Retail investors can therefore apply for the NSE IPO with a minimum investment of ₹14,280 at the upper end of the price band.

How Many NSE Shares Are Being Sold?

The public offer comprises up to 12,64,36,650 equity shares through an Offer for Sale by existing shareholders.

Since the issue is entirely an OFS, NSE will not receive fresh capital from the IPO. The money raised will accrue to shareholders selling their stakes.

When Will NSE Shares Be Listed?

The NSE IPO is expected to be listed on the BSE on September 24, 2026. The allotment is expected to be completed on September 22, according to the current IPO schedule.

The actual listing price, however, will be determined by market conditions and demand when trading begins. The GMP should not be treated as a guaranteed indication of the listing price.

Why Is the NSE IPO Attracting Attention?

The IPO marks the public-market debut of one of India's most prominent financial-market institutions after a long wait. NSE operates India's largest stock exchange by several key market activity measures and has a significant presence in equity and derivatives trading.

At the same time, investors are assessing the company's valuation, dependence on derivatives activity, regulatory environment and broader market conditions. Reuters has noted that derivatives volumes have declined from their 2024 peak amid regulatory changes, making the valuation and future growth outlook important considerations for investors.

NSE IPO: What Investors Should Know

The NSE IPO opens on September 17 and closes on September 21, with a price band of ₹1,700–₹1,785 and a minimum lot size of eight shares.

The IPO's GMP has generated market interest, but it remains an unofficial indicator and can change significantly. Investors should therefore consider the company's financial performance, valuation, business model, regulatory risks and information contained in the offer documents rather than relying solely on GMP.
