The report named the new Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), released on Monday by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Oxford Department of Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) at the University of Oxford, states that in India since 2005-06 Between the year 2019-21, about 415 million people in India have been lifted out of poverty.

 

 

In a press release issued by the United Nations about the report, it has been said that the coming out of 415 million people in India from the maze of poverty in 15 years is a historic change. The UN has said that this change in India is an important case study for the Sustainable Development Goals. The goal of ending poverty in all its forms and reducing the proportion of men, women, and children of all ages living in poverty in all dimensions by the year 2030 is an example.

 

The report said that according to the population figures for 2020, India is the poorest in the world. The number of poor here is 228.9 million (22.89 crores). It is followed by Nigeria where 96.7 million (9.67 crores) are poor.

 

Despite progress, India's population has been affected by the growing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising food and energy prices. The report said that to deal with challenges like malnutrition and energy crises, priority should be given to integrated policies.

 

The report said that despite improving figures, India had 97 million poor children in 2019-21, which is the total number of poor people, children, and adults combined in any other country covered by the global MPI. were more than numbers. Multidisciplinary policy approaches show that integrated interventions can improve the lives of millions. The report said that 19.1 percent of the 1.2 billion people in 111 countries live in extreme multidimensional poverty. Of these, half of the 593 million people (over 59 crores) are children under the age of 18.
