Gold and silver prices declined on Friday, September 11, with both precious metals witnessing a fall in domestic bullion markets. According to benchmark rates from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), 24-carat gold is trading around the ₹1.53 lakh-per-10-gram level, while silver is around ₹2.30 lakh per kilogram. IBJA rates are benchmark bullion prices and are quoted before GST and jewellery-making charges.

The price of 24-carat gold has declined by ₹269 to approximately ₹1.53 lakh per 10 grams, according to the figures cited in the report.

Gold prices vary according to purity. Buyers should therefore check the applicable rate for 24K, 22K and 18K gold before purchasing jewellery. Retail jewellery prices can also be higher than benchmark bullion rates because of GST and making charges.

Silver Price Today: Silver Falls ₹3,742

Silver prices have also declined. The price of 999-purity silver is around the ₹2.30 lakh-per-kg level in the latest market data.

Recent domestic market trading has also shown volatility in silver, with MCX silver moving lower during Friday's session.

Gold Price Outlook: Can Gold Reach ₹1.70 Lakh?

Despite the day's decline, gold has remained significantly higher over the year. Market analysts continue to track factors including global interest-rate expectations, geopolitical uncertainty, central-bank purchases and movements in the US dollar.

According to the outlook cited in the report, gold could reach around ₹1.70 lakh per 10 grams by December, while silver could potentially move towards ₹3 lakh per kg if market conditions remain supportive.

These are market projections, however, and actual gold and silver prices can change depending on domestic and international market conditions.

Gold Price 2026: Gold Remains Significantly Higher Than December 2025

Gold has recorded a substantial increase compared with its December 2025 level. According to the figures cited in the report, 10 grams of gold were priced at around ₹1.33 lakh on December 31, 2025, compared with approximately ₹1.53 lakh currently.

The precious-metal market has experienced considerable volatility during 2026, with gold and silver both reaching significantly higher levels earlier in the year.

3 Things to Check Before Buying Gold Jewellery

1. Buy BIS-Hallmarked Gold

Always check that the jewellery carries the required BIS hallmark and verify the purity before making a purchase.

2. Check the Day's Gold Rate

Gold prices vary according to purity, including 24K, 22K and 18K. Compare the prevailing benchmark rate before buying and confirm the weight of the jewellery.

3. Compare Making Charges

Making charges can significantly increase the final jewellery bill. Ask the jeweller for a clear breakdown of the gold price, making charges and applicable taxes. Consumers can also compare making charges among different jewellers before completing a purchase.
