What Do the IPO Listings Mean for Investors?
The first-day listing price shows how the market valued each stock relative to its IPO issue price, but a listing gain should not automatically be treated as a guaranteed or realised profit for every investor.
The actual return for an investor depends on the allotment, purchase or sale price, brokerage and other charges, taxes, and subsequent market movements.
Investors should also distinguish between IPO listing gains and longer-term stock performance. A strong debut does not by itself indicate how a stock will perform in the following trading sessions.
