Qatar Navy Officer News The death sentence of 8 former Indian sailors has been put on hold in Qatar. The ban on hanging is being considered a major victory for India's diplomacy. With this, the hopes of all of them returning to India have increased. The meeting between PM Modi and the ruler Sheikh of Qatar is also being said to be the reason behind this decision.
An appellate court of Qatar, while hearing the case filed by convicted former naval officers, has directed to reduce the death sentence of all. Calling it a big victory, the Ministry of External Affairs said that it still stands with these Indians and will consider further action in consultation with legal advisors.
One meeting of PM Modi did wonders
After the death sentence given to 8 Indians by the court of Qatar (Qatar Navy Officer News), the Indian government started efforts to save them at its level. Meanwhile, PM Modi was also keeping an eye on this matter from behind the scenes.
After the punishment of the ex-servicemen, on December 1, on the sidelines of the Environmental Protection Conference (Dubai), Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Emir Sheikh Tamim of Qatar. It is believed that in this brief meeting the Indian PM had raised the issue of these officers. It is understood that this meeting had a great impact, after which Qatar's stance also softened.
Permission was given to meet the ambassador
After this, on December 3, the Indian Ambassador in Doha was allowed to meet the former marines, and the execution was continued yesterday after opposition to the decision in another court.
There are still many options
All these officers have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment. But there is an option to challenge this punishment further. Besides, his family will also have the right to appeal to the Emir of Qatar for the remission of his prison sentence. But this can happen only after a year.
Meanwhile, an agreement has also been reached between India and Qatar to transfer convicted prisoners to another country. Under this, they can also be sent to India after a certain interval to serve the remaining imprisonment. However the decision on these issues will be taken only after studying the decision of the Appellate Court in detail.
