New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS) Muslim body Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Thursday congratulated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on its "historic victory" in Delhi assembly elections and said the poll results have proved that there was no place for "caste-based and divisive politics" in the country.
"The success of AAP is a strong democratic reply to politics of hatred," it said in a statement here.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which had won general elections on promises of development and welfare of all, did not do what it had promised during polls, it said.
"The BJP, after winning general elections became arrogant and put the poll promises and real issues on the back burner and launched hate campaigns targeting minorities in the name of 'Love Jihad' and 'Ghar Wapsi'," it said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also did not heed to the appeals of civil society and opposition parties to rein in the hateful and divisive campaigns.
The AAP election campaign was unique as it addressed common people "without flashing the card of caste, class or creed", said the Jamaat.
The success of AAP has also proved that there is huge scope for value-based politics in the country, it said, also adding the Delhi election has lessons for both the BJP and the Congress.
