Environmental education will be mandatory in all engineering colleges of the country from the coming session. The High-Level Committee of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has made this provision regarding environmental education under Environment Policy 2020.

The environmental policy has been prepared by a committee of experts from the IIT, Environment, and Forest Department. Under this, it will be necessary to include an environmental subject in the engineering course. Along with this, the students will have to suggest ways to solve the local problems of the villages through technology and doubling the income of the farmers during the internship.

A letter has been written in this regard to all the states and engineering colleges on behalf of AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe. According to the letter, Environment Policy 2020 has been implemented under the new education policy. All engineering colleges will now have to make environmental education compulsory.

Apart from this, these institutions will also have to implement the rules given under the Environment Policy. Institutions will be required to upload their annual report as well as the details of environmental policy and related work on the website. A provision has been made to cancel their recognition for violation of the rule. Subjects like environment, ocean, water technology, carbon engineering will also be compulsorily added to this course. One student, one tree scheme will also be implemented.
