Environmental education will be mandatory in all engineering colleges of the country from the coming session. The High-Level Committee of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has made this provision regarding environmental education under Environment Policy 2020.

The environmental policy has been prepared by a committee of experts from the IIT, Environment, and Forest Department. According to the letter, Environment Policy 2020 has been implemented under the new education policy. All engineering colleges will now have to make environmental education compulsory.

Apart from this, these institutions will also have to implement the rules given under the Environment Policy. Institutions will be required to upload their annual report as well as the details of environmental policy and related work on the website. A provision has been made to cancel their recognition for violation of the rule. Subjects like environment, ocean, water technology, carbon engineering will also be compulsorily added to this course. One student, one tree scheme will also be implemented.
