Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was attacked in the city of Nara on Friday morning. He was fired upon when he was addressing a gathering. During this, he suddenly fell. According to media reports, he was shot twice in the chest. His condition is critical and he is not responding.

 

The police arrested the 42-year-old assailant on the spot. The Gun has been recovered from him. The police are questioning the accused. It is also not clear who fired the bullet and why.

According to Japanese media reports, Shinzo also suffered a heart attack after being shot. However, the official statement has not come about it yet. According to eyewitnesses, gunshots were heard on the spot, and blood was seen oozing from Abe's body. Elections to the Upper House are due in Japan on Sunday. Shinzo was the longest-serving PM

 

Shinzo, 67, is associated with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Abe was prime minister from 2006 to 2007. After this, he was the Prime Minister for 2803 consecutive days (8 years) from 2012 to 2020. His name holds the record of being in the PM post for the longest time (9 years). Earlier this record was in the name of his uncle Isaku Saito.

 

Abe is considered an aggressive leader. Shinzo had ulcerative colitis, a bowel disease that forced him to resign as prime minister in 2007.
