BCCI has announced to increase the monthly pension of retired cricketers by 100%. This will benefit 900 female and male cricketers as well as the match official. This was announced by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. BCCI first started giving pensions to retired cricketers in 2004. All the cricketers who retired before 31st December 1993 were included in this pension scheme.
The players who were getting 15 thousand rupees as a pension, will now get 30 thousand rupees. At the same time, former cricketers receiving 22 thousand 500 rupees as pension will get 45 thousand rupees monthly. Apart from this, former players getting a pension of 30 thousand rupees will get 52 thousand 500, players getting 37 thousand 500 60 thousand and 50 thousand players will get 70 thousand rupees monthly pension.
BCCI gets rich from IPL media rights
The auction of media rights for the next five seasons (2023 to 2027) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has made BCCI rich. For the Indian subcontinent, TV rights have been sold for Rs 57.5 crore per match and digital rights for Rs 50 crore per match. Their total bid is 44,075 crores. Only after this news came to the fore, did Jay Shah has made such a big announcement for his former players.
The pension was last increased in 2015
Earlier in 2015, the BCCI had announced an increase in the monthly allowance for former domestic and international players. This benefited both the female and male players. Under this, Test cricketers who have played 25 matches and retired before December 31, 1993, used to get Rs 50,000 per month. At the same time, the players who retired after 1993 used to get 37 thousand rupees.
