Kolkata, Jan 16 (IANS) In the wake of recent attacks by Bangladeshi smugglers, Border Security Force Director General D.K. Pathak Friday reviewed the security scenario and border management along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal.
Accompanied by senior BSF officers, Pathak visited Angrail, Haridaspur and Petrapole border outposts and was briefed by commandants and company commanders regarding crime profile and operations being under taken by the BSF to control trans-border crime.
He also carried out patrolling on the newly-inducted twin engine speed boat in the riverine areas of the frontier.
Addressing the troops, Pathak congratulated the troops for their outstanding operation performance and sensitised them with respect to human rights, good relations with counterparts, local populations and civil administration," said a BSF spokesperson.
"Emphasising on controlling trans-border crime including cattle smuggling and illegal migration, the DG also stressed on the need to ensure own safety and security while operating on border," added the spokesperson.
Pathak who landed in Kolkata Thursday, was briefed by Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier S.K. Sood and Inspector General, North Bengal Frontier Sandeep Salunke about the border management of their respective frontiers.
Earlier in the month, a BSF trooper was killed and another injured when armed Bangladeshi smugglers opened fire on them.
In 2014, at least 78 BSF troopers were seriously injured in attacks by Bangladeshi smugglers across the South Bengal Frontier.
