In Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district, around 100 people have fallen ill after consuming food at a ritual organized after the death of a person. According to the information, most of the people who fall ill are children. Doctors told that symptoms of food poisoning have been seen in these people. Officials said that the incident took place in Ansula village of Pithora block on Wednesday evening. After this, 50 children and 10 others were admitted to two hospitals, while others were discharged from the hospital after first aid.

Mahasamund Collector Doman Singh said that all these people had had food at the 'Dashgatra' (a ritual held on the tenth day after the death of a person) organized by Dilip Sahu. Sahu is the headmaster of a government primary school in Ansula village, 50 km from state capital Raipur, and besides locals, children from his school and other educational institutions also attended the event.

Singh said that after consuming food for two to three hours, around 100 people, including women and children, complained of symptoms like restlessness and food poisoning, after which they were taken to the nearest hospital. The Collector and other district administration and health officials visited the hospitals to take stock of the situation. There a medical team has also been sent to the village.

He said that 48 people, including 42 children and two women, have been admitted to Pithora Community Health Center and 12 others, including eight children, have been admitted to Sakra Health Center. At present, the condition of all is said to be out of danger. Others were discharged from hospitals after initial treatment.

The official said that investigation is on to find out the exact cause of food poisoning. When asked whether action would be taken against Sahu for inviting school children to the ceremony, the Collector said he had asked the District Education Officer to give a detailed report in this regard.
