Asmita Dey Creates History with India's First-Ever Commonwealth Judo Gold

Twenty-three-year-old Asmita Dey from Tripura etched her name into the history books by becoming India's first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold medallist.

Facing Canada's Heidi Quach in the final, Asmita fought back brilliantly after conceding an early point and penalty. She equalised the contest before securing the winning point during the Golden Score period, sealing a landmark victory for Indian judo.

Harsh Singh Delivers Second Gold Within 15 Minutes

India's celebrations continued just 15 minutes later, as Harsh Singh captured the men's 60kg judo gold medal.

In a closely fought final against Australia's Joshua Katz, neither judoka managed to score for most of the contest. Harsh produced a decisive move in the closing stages to claim victory and India's second judo gold of the day.

Yamini Maurya Wins Silver After Hard-Fought Final

India also celebrated another podium finish in judo through Yamini Maurya, who claimed the silver medal in the women's 57kg category.

Yamini faced England's Acelya Toprak in a tense final that extended into the Golden Score period. After both competitors accumulated two penalties, Yamini received a third warning, handing Toprak the victory while the Indian settled for silver.

Neeraj Chopra Takes Silver; Yashvir Singh Wins Bronze in Javelin

India enjoyed a memorable outing in the men's javelin throw, winning two medals.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra secured the silver medal with a best throw of 85.83 metres, narrowly missing the gold.

The surprise package was Yashvir Singh, who registered a personal best of 85.41 metres to clinch the bronze medal, marking one of the biggest achievements of his career.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathiraje claimed the gold medal with a winning throw of 89.75 metres.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem endured a disappointing competition, failing to qualify for the top eight after the opening three rounds.

Tejaswin Shankar Becomes First Indian Decathlon Medallist

Indian athletics achieved another historic milestone through Tejaswin Shankar, who became the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon.

Tejaswin accumulated 7,976 points across the demanding two-day competition to secure the bronze medal. He had earlier won bronze in the high jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Grenada's Lindon Victor won gold with 8,096 points, while Damian Warner captured silver with 8,036 points.

The decathlon consists of ten events: 100m sprint, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m sprint, 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m run.
