New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS) Over 60,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel will be deployed to conduct free and fair Delhi assembly elections Feb 7.
Paramilitary forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force and Border Security Force, will be in charge of internal security at 11,763 polling stations in 70 assembly segments across Delhi. Home guards will also be deployed at the polling stations.
The number of sensitive polling stations has increased from 677 in 2013 to 695 this year of which 173 are highly critical.
According to a senior police officer, the force been asked to increase the vigil in its areas. Security has already been stepped up in the sensitive areas of Delhi.
"Over 60,000 security personnel will be on city roads and polling stations on the election day. The policemen will be deployed from early morning on the polling day. The security will be strict, till the completion of the polls," said the officer.
The votes will be counted Feb 10.
The officer said the Election Commission will be constantly monitoring the ground situation closely and will take appropriate measures to ensure peaceful, free and fair polls.
The forces will also secure the strong rooms where the EVMs will be stored, as also the counting centers.
