New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) The Election Commission Wednesday expressed the desire to develop further cooperation with the Brazilian Supreme Electoral Court.
Welcoming a visiting four-member Brazilian delegation here, Chief Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma referred to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of election management, signed by the two commissions in 2010 and expressed a desire to develop cooperation between the two organisations.
Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi also emphasised the need for further strengthening the cooperation under the bilateral MoU and stressed the need for further consultation and coordination among the few Election Commissions which use Electronic Voting Machines in their elections.
Justice Dias Toffoli, president of the Brazilian Supreme Electoral Court -- leading the delegation; Carlos Duarte, ambassador of Brazil to India; Tarcisio Costa, international advisor; and Paulo Camarao, special advisor in the Supreme Electoral Authority of Brazil, were impressed by the National Voters Service Portal developed by the EC.
Praising the election management skills of the EC, Toffoli also expressed interest in its project of seeding bio-metric data of electors in its data base through the Aadhaar card.
The Brazilian delegation was also given a hands-on demonstration of Electronic Voting Machine and other electoral techniques.
