Dense fog enveloped several parts of North India, including Delhi and the NCR, on Friday morning, significantly reducing visibility and affecting flights and transportation.

Delhi Airport issued an advisory stating that CAT III operations are currently in effect, which may cause delays and disruptions. Several airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have also issued advisories warning of the impact of the weather on flight operations.

Trains also affected

Due to the dense fog in the region, several trains are running late, and some have been canceled, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Weather Department issues alert

Visibility in Delhi-NCR has dropped to less than 100 meters due to the fog. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the day, forecasting dense fog in the morning. According to the weather department, dense to very dense fog is likely to persist over North India, which may affect air traffic. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The Yogi government takes strict measures.

The effects of the fog were also seen in other cities of North India, and an alert has been issued for the next two days in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prevent road accidents, and a speed limit has been imposed across the state. Those exceeding the prescribed speed limit will be fined. This directive will remain in effect until February 15, 2026.

Regarding the speed limits, for vehicles like cars, the speed limit is 80 km/hour from 8 AM to 8 PM and 60 km/hour from 8 PM to 8 AM. Similarly, for buses and tempo travelers, the limits are 60 and 50 km/hour, respectively, and for goods vehicles, 50 and 40 km/hour.

No change in temperature expected.

According to the Meteorological Department, after a day's respite from the fog, a dense fog alert will be in effect again in the capital on Sunday (December 21) and Monday (December 22). It has been predicted that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over Northwest India during the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the subsequent three days, after which no further change is expected.
