New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Demanding the "immediate" hanging of the December 16, 2012 gang rape convict for justifying the ghastly crime, the father of the victim blamed the "judicial system" and said such remarks will embolden other rapists.
"The person who can do such kind of disgusting act... can say anything. He should be hanged immediately. I appeal to the court to hang him as soon as possible," the victim's father said when asked about his reaction to the BBC documentary "India's Daughter".
The documentary stirred a controversy after some of the comments by one of the convicts Mukesh Singh hit the headlines on Monday, much before the documentary is to be aired on March 8, on International Women's Day.
The convict openly blamed the victim and said a "girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy" and that the victim should not "resist" when being raped.
As the controversy over the interview raged, Delhi Police said it was moving court to stop its telecast.
Asked about the convict's comments, the victim's father said: "His statement will support other rapists and embolden them."
He also blamed the judicial system.
"It is a message to the country. Such statement (by the convict) is supporting people like him... and it is showing the fault of our judicial system," he told Times Now channel.
He said if all the convicts were hanged, the others would not muster the courage to make such remarks about his daughter.
His wife also agreed with him.
"The convict should be hanged. It will be a lesson (for the others)," she added.
The Supreme Court is hearing the appeal against the death sentence awarded to the four men involved in the gruesome rape that shocked the country.
The documentary is to be broadcast in India on International Women's Day on NDTV 24X7 at 9 p.m., and simultaneously shown in countries like Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and Canada. But with police moving court against its telecast, a question marks hangs over its telecast.
