IND vs BAN: Why were Shreyas Iyer and Shami not selected for the Test series against Bangladesh? Know the reason here

On Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India for the first match of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will start on September 19. Rishabh Pant has returned to this team while Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami were dropped. This decision of the board has attracted everyone's attention.

Rishabh Pant returns

Pant, who was seriously injured in a car accident in 2022, has returned to the Test team. He recently made a comeback in the red ball format from the Duleep Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batsman was part of the India B team that defeated India A on Sunday. Pant was last seen playing in a Test match against Bangladesh. He became a victim of a road accident after the match played between 22 and 25 December. However, he has managed to make a successful comeback. He is expected to perform well in the upcoming Test match against Bangladesh. India's first Test match against Bangladesh will be played from September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, while the second match will start from September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami have not been included in the 16-member team announced by BCCI for the first match.

Iyer dropped

Star batsman Shreyas Iyer has not been made a part of the squad selected for the first match. This decision of BCCI has surprised everyone. If we look at his previous performances, he could not show anything special in the ODI World Cup and Duleep Trophy. Recently, the 29-year-old batsman played a brilliant innings of 54 runs in the second innings against India C, but his bat was completely silent in the first innings. Iyer is captaining India D. In the first match, India C defeated his team by four wickets.

Earlier this year, Iyer suffered an injury during the Test series against England due to which he was out of the team. Apart from this, he was dropped from the BCCI's central contracts after being unavailable for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. However, his recent performances in long formats like the Buchi Babu tournament and the first innings of the Duleep Trophy have not been impressive. Iyer also led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title. The competition for the middle order in the Indian Test team has intensified. The rise of Sarfaraz Khan and the consistent performance of KL Rahul have pushed Iyer to the lower order.

Shami kept out of Test team

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently spoke on the return of Mohammed Shami and expressed hope that he could make a comeback before the Bangladesh series. However, Shami is still working on his comeback and has not been included in the Test team selected for the upcoming series. Instead, he can be seen playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. There is also speculation that Shami may miss at least the first Test of the three-match series against New Zealand. He has not been part of the team for a long time.

Actually, Shami recently went abroad for ankle surgery. After successful surgery, he is now undergoing rehabilitation (process of recovering from injury). It is believed that Shami can play in one of Bengal's first two Ranji matches against Uttar Pradesh on October 11 and Bihar on October 18.

The Indian team for the first Test against Bangladesh is as follows...

Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
