India at UNSC: India speaks at UNSC on Russia-Ukraine war, concerned about the status of Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

India on Tuesday said that it is concerned about the status of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. India further stated that any accident involving nuclear facilities could have potentially disastrous consequences.

 

Addressing the UN Security Council briefing, the country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that India continues to carefully follow developments concerning the safety and security of Ukraine's nuclear facilities and that it is committed to the safety and security of these facilities. attaches high importance to ensuring defense.

 

The Ambassador said that India attaches high priority to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) carrying out its security measures and monitoring activities in an effective, purposeful, and efficient manner under its law.

 

Kamboj said, “India is concerned about the status of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. We support ongoing efforts, including by the IAEA, to reduce tensions and steps to ensure nuclear security and defense at the facility.'

 

The concern comes as recent weeks have seen an increase in shelling around Europe's largest nuclear facility.
