India Beat England by 6 Wickets in 1st ODI: Axar Patel Stars with All-Round Show, Gill and Washington Shine

Team India began the three-match ODI series on a winning note, defeating England by six wickets in the first ODI at Edgbaston to take a 1-0 lead. Chasing a target of 259 runs, India comfortably reached 262/4 in 45.2 overs, thanks to a sensational all-round performance from Axar Patel, who starred with both bat and ball.

 

The second ODI of the series will be played in Cardiff on July 16.

Axar Patel Stars with Bat and Ball

 

Axar Patel emerged as the undisputed hero of India's victory. The left-arm all-rounder first dismantled England's batting lineup with 4 wickets for 62 runs, before guiding India home with an unbeaten 57 off 52 balls.

 

His match-winning contribution earned him the Player of the Match award.

 

Shubman Gill Anchors the Chase

 

India's chase got off to a shaky start after the early dismissals of Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (5).

 

Captain Shubman Gill steadied the innings with a composed 80 runs off 75 deliveries, sharing a crucial 101-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer (35) for the third wicket.

 

Gill later retired hurt due to cramps after completing his brilliant knock.

 

Axar Patel and Washington Sundar Finish the Job

 

After India slipped to 160/4, Axar Patel joined hands with Washington Sundar to completely shift the momentum.

 

The pair stitched together an unbeaten 102-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Washington sealed India's victory in style by smashing a six to complete his half-century.

 

England Collapse After Strong Start

 

Earlier, England made a promising start after winning the toss and opting to bat.

 

Openers Ben Duckett (43) and Jacob Bethell (14) added 61 runs for the opening wicket before India's bowlers triggered a dramatic collapse.

 

England lost five wickets for just 19 runs, handing complete control to India.

 

Joe Root and Liam Dawson Fight Back

 

Experienced batter Joe Root and Liam Dawson rescued England with a valuable 121-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

 

Joe Root: 76*

Liam Dawson: 68

 

Despite their efforts, England were bowled out for 258 in 47.5 overs.

India's bowling attack impressed throughout the innings.
