Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of Sri Lanka Test Series Due to Knee Injury; Big Blow for Team India Ahead of August 15 Opener

Team India has suffered a major setback ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ruled out after failing to recover fully from a left knee injury. The opening Test of the series is scheduled to begin on August 15 in Galle, but India's pace spearhead will miss the tour on medical advice.

Bumrah has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where the board's medical team reportedly recommended additional rest before he returns to competitive cricket.

Bumrah Yet to Recover Fully From Knee Injury

According to reports, Bumrah has not regained full match fitness following the knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against England.

The BCCI medical staff has advised the 32-year-old pacer to continue his recovery instead of making a rushed return, reducing the risk of aggravating the injury ahead of a busy international calendar.

While Bumrah was included in India's 15-member squad, his selection was subject to fitness clearance. As of now, the BCCI has not issued an official statement confirming his withdrawal.

Mohammed Siraj to Lead India's Pace Attack

With Bumrah unavailable, Mohammed Siraj is expected to shoulder the responsibility of leading India's fast-bowling unit during the Sri Lanka series.

The pace attack also includes:

Mohammed Siraj

Prasidh Krishna

Gurnoor Brar

Young left-arm pacer Gurnoor Brar could be in line for his Test debut if selected in the playing XI.

Bumrah's Outstanding Record Against Sri Lanka

Despite playing only two Test matches against Sri Lanka, Bumrah has been highly effective.

Overall, he has claimed 234 Test wickets, establishing himself as one of India's greatest fast bowlers in the longest format.

India Holds Dominant Record Against Sri Lanka

India enters the series with a commanding record against Sri Lanka in Test cricket.

Total Test series: 17

Sri Lanka won: 3

Sri Lanka has not defeated India in a Test series since 2008, meaning the island nation has gone nearly 18 years without a series victory over Team India.

Big Challenge Before the August 15 Series

Bumrah's absence is a significant blow for India, especially considering his experience and ability to deliver breakthroughs in overseas conditions.

However, the team management is expected to prioritize his long-term fitness, with several important assignments scheduled later in the season.

India will now rely on Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and the rest of the bowling attack to maintain the team's dominance against Sri Lanka.
