Delhi Capitals have stepped up their preparations for IPL 2027, conducting a short camp and trials in Delhi to assess domestic talent and strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The camp was held at a ground in Aerocity, where several domestic players who impressed during the franchise's earlier off-season camp in Bengaluru were given another opportunity to perform in match-like situations. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra oversaw the proceedings, while Sri Lankan fast-bowling great Chaminda Vaas also joined the camp.
Yuvraj Singh, Amit Mishra Assess Domestic Talent
The Delhi Capitals camp focused on identifying players who could potentially strengthen the franchise's squad for the IPL 2027 season.
Yuvraj Singh and Amit Mishra worked with the shortlisted domestic players and assessed their performances in different match situations. Vaas was also involved in the evaluation process, adding his fast-bowling expertise to the camp.
Vaas is reportedly in line to join Delhi Capitals as their bowling coach for the upcoming season. However, the franchise has yet to formally announce its complete IPL 2027 coaching staff.
Delhi Capitals Planning Major Coaching Overhaul
Delhi Capitals are expected to enter IPL 2027 with a significantly reshaped coaching setup.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been linked with the head-coach role, while Yuvraj Singh is expected to have a senior batting-related responsibility. Amit Mishra could also take charge of the spin department, while Vaas is being considered for the fast-bowling role.
Reports suggest the franchise has already started working with Vaas and Mishra at its academy in Delhi. However, these appointments should be treated as expected changes until Delhi Capitals make an official announcement.
Bengaluru Camp Players Get Another Opportunity
The Delhi camp follows an earlier off-season programme at the Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly were involved in the Bengaluru camp, where the franchise assessed a group of domestic players. Several performers from that camp were subsequently given another opportunity during the Delhi trials.
The two-stage assessment highlights Delhi Capitals' focus on scouting Indian domestic talent before finalising their squad for the next IPL cycle.
Mini-Auction Another Key Step
The franchise will have another opportunity to strengthen its squad at the IPL 2027 mini-auction, which is scheduled for later this year.
The domestic trials allow the team management to assess potential options before making decisions around recruitment and squad composition. The aim will be to build a more competitive squad after Delhi Capitals missed the playoffs in both the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons.
JSW to Oversee Delhi Capitals Operations
Delhi Capitals' preparations for IPL 2027 also come as the franchise enters a new operational cycle.
Under the arrangement between co-owners JSW Group and GMR Group, management of the men's IPL team alternates between the two entities every two years. JSW Group is set to oversee the franchise's cricket operations for the 2027 and 2028 cycles.
With a new operational phase, a potential coaching overhaul and increased focus on domestic scouting, Delhi Capitals have already started laying the groundwork for IPL 2027.
The franchise will now look to convert its early preparations into a stronger squad and, ultimately, a better campaign in the upcoming season.
