Gold and silver prices declined in the domestic bullion market on August 13, according to data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).
The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold fell by ₹972 to ₹1.52 lakh. Meanwhile, the price of 1 kilogram of silver declined by ₹3,414 to ₹2.34 lakh.
Despite today's correction, both precious metals remain significantly higher compared with their levels at the end of 2025.
Gold Has Risen by Around ₹19,000 in 2026
Gold has delivered a strong gain so far this year. On December 31, 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold was above ₹1.33 lakh. It has now climbed to around ₹1.52 lakh, representing an increase of approximately ₹19,000.
During this period, gold also touched an all-time high of ₹1.76 lakh.
The movement shows that gold prices have remained volatile, with investors closely tracking global economic conditions, interest-rate expectations, currency movements and geopolitical developments.
Silver Also Remains Higher Than Its 2025 Level
Silver prices have also moved higher compared with the end of last year.
Silver was priced at around ₹2.30 lakh per kilogram on December 31, 2025, compared with ₹2.34 lakh currently. The metal has also experienced significant volatility and touched ₹3.86 lakh per kilogram on January 29.
Today's decline therefore represents a correction from recent levels rather than a reversal of the broader yearly movement.
Two Things to Remember Before Buying Gold
With gold prices remaining elevated, buyers should take a few precautions before purchasing jewellery or bullion.
1. Buy BIS-Hallmarked Gold
Consumers should check that the gold they purchase carries the required BIS hallmark. Hallmarking helps establish the purity of the gold.
Buyers should carefully check the hallmark and associated identification details before completing a purchase.
2. Check the Gold Rate and Weight
Before buying jewellery, consumers should independently verify the prevailing gold price and the actual weight of the item.
Gold rates differ according to purity, including 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold. Buyers should also carefully examine the invoice and understand the applicable making charges, taxes and other costs.
Checking rates from reliable sources, including the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), can help consumers make a more informed purchase.
Gold and Silver Outlook
The latest decline in gold and silver prices highlights the volatility of the precious-metals market. While both metals remain substantially above their December 2025 levels, prices can fluctuate sharply over short periods.
For buyers, the key takeaway is to verify purity, weight and the prevailing market rate rather than making a purchase solely because prices are rising or falling on a particular day.
