The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Tuesday decided to ban ISKCON priest Amogha Leela Das. ISKCON said that Leela Das was banned after the controversy that arose over her comments about Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahansa.

Significantly, Amogh Leela Das criticized Swami Vivekananda for consuming fish and said that a virtuous person can never harm any living being. He also commented sarcastically on Ramakrishna's teaching "jato mat tato path" (as many views, so many paths) that not all paths lead to the same destination.

Trinamool Congress leader had demanded action

Explain that a video of Amog Leela Das's comment went viral on social media, after which controversy arose. Trinamool Congress (TMC) state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said that we respect ISKCON, but it should stop Das now. Needed Insult to Ramakrishna and Vivekananda will not be tolerated. He demanded immediate action against the monk.

ISKCON issued a statement saying that the views of Das do not represent his values and teachings. We condemn any disrespect and intolerance towards religious beliefs and practices. The derogatory comments reflect Das's lack of awareness of the diversity of spiritual paths and personal choices.

banned for one month

Taking note of Das' mistake, ISKCON has decided to ban him for a month, the statement said. We have told them our decision. Amogh Leela Das has apologized for his comments. Realizing how big a mistake he had made, he decided to go to Govardhan Parvat for a month to make atonement. He will completely disassociate himself with immediate effect.
